EADS wants A400M contract change, adds delay

PARIS, Jan 9 (Reuters) - Airbus parent EADS, seeking to bolster a troubled
European military project, called on Friday for a renegotiated contract with
NATO nations and indicated the A400M airlifter would not be ready before
2012.
The plane -- designed to plug gaps in transport capacity in conflict zones
like Afghanistan or to carry out humanitarian missions -- has been hit by
delays in building its massive turbo-prop engines, sparking a public row
with suppliers.
EADS has in turn been unable to meet its obligations to seven European NATO
countries that ordered the plane in the largest single European arms
purchase in 2003, placed through procurement agency OCCAR.
In a statement after markets closed on Friday, EADS said it wanted to
'discuss the programme schedule along with changes to other areas of the
contract including in particular certain technical characteristics.'

BERLIN, Nov 28 (Reuters) - European arms chiefs want Airbus parent EADS to break its silence over the timetable for the delayed A400M airlifter and are estimating it will be 18 months late, according to a German government document seen by Reuters.
The 20 billion euro project to provide airlift capacity to seven European NATO countries has been postponed indefinitely by Airbus Military as the planemaker and its engine producers argue over the blame for flaws in the
plane's turbo-prop power system.
Since delaying the first flight in September, EADS has declined to say when the aircraft, which was already running 6-12 months late, would be ready, saying it was at the mercy of the performance of its engine suppliers.

Een KLM-toestel heeft zaterdag een doorstart moeten maken op het vliegveld van Curaçao. De piloot zag tijdens het landen dat er nog een vliegtuigje op de landingsbaan stond. Standaardprocedure schrijft voor dat het vliegtuig dan extra gas geeft en weer opstijgt.

Na een rondje vliegen kon het toestel een paar minuten later alsnog landen. Aan boord zaten 290 mensen, die volgens de KLM geen moment in gevaar zijn geweest. De piloot besloot tot de doorstart na overleg met de verkeerstoren. Een woordvoerder van de KLM heeft woensdag een bericht daarover van de NOS bevestigd.

Het bleek om een Venezolaans privévliegtuig te gaan dat nog aan het taxiën was op de landingsbaan van luchthaven Hato. Volgens de woordvoerder gebeurt een dergelijke doorstart 'gelukkig niet wekelijks', maar gemiddeld een keer in de twee jaar op intercontinentale vluchten en in Europa iets vaker. Piloten worden er volgens haar vier keer per jaar op getraind.
